A’Ibom police in search of more arms factories

The police in Akwa Ibom are still in search of more arms factories, a few weeks after the discovery of a 30-year old gun factory in Ikono Local Government Area of the state.

The police, which described the last incident as very unfortunate and dangerous, said it had commenced vigorous searches across the state to uncover such illegal factories.

In an interview with CRIME DIGEST in Uyo on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, said the police were yet to discover any new locally-made gun factory after the last one in Ikono LGA, where single-barrel wooden guns were being made.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Gwadabe, said the factory contained gun making machines and some ammunition which had already been seized.

He noted that the intelligence report would help the command in mopping up ilegal arms in the area, adding that investigations are on-going and expected to lead to the arrest of more collaborators.

Actress ‘Genevieve Nnaji’ Relocates Parents To Lekki From Egbeda

Nollwood Star actress, Genevieve Nnaji is repaying her parents for their support and training. She has just moved them from Egbeda, a Lagos suburb to highbrow and upscale Lekki, Lagos.
Both parents are in late 60s and 70s respectively, according to sources close to the family; they were full of excitement about the move.Genevieve, according to the source had in recent time found it challenging to check on her parents due to distance, besides, she felt her dad who could hardly walk due to old age on his own would be closer to her and receive adequate medical care. On few occasions that she has visited, fans, especially boisterous school children had swarmed her.
Since the relocation, her mum, who has been a very active member and President of the Catholic Women’s Association Wing of the St. Louis Cathedral, Egbeda, has not been regular in the church though a family source said she has completed her tenure as the President and a fresh election brought in a new President. The mother now attends a church close to their Lekki home. The family now lives together as one and that really makes Genevieve happy.”
Until the movement the family has stayed the better part of their lives in Egbeda. Checks revealed that Genevieve actually started her career from 11, Olugbede Street, Egbeda, where she lived with her parents in one of the apartments in a four block of flats. As soon as she started having a rising profile, earned fatter cheques, and endorsements, she moved them to another place also in Egbeda six years ago. When her fame grew bigger, she relocated them to another spacious and expansive apartment, situated in a block of nine flats in 7/9 Aderibigbe Sokunbi Street, Egbeda.
When we visited the last apartment, the Nnaji’s former neighbors described the Nnajis as peaceful, loving and elderly neighbors. “We will miss Genevieve’s parents for their love to all, they are very peaceful, their children too. Though the husband is always indoors due to old age, his wife cares a lot for him. We will miss the star presence that Genevieve brings to the neighborhood each time she visits”.

President Jonathan Condemns Terror Attack In Britain

President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed shock at the terrorist attack and killing of a British soldier, Drummer Lee Rigby of the 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in the Woolwich area of London, United Kingdom; and strongly condemns this unfortunate incident.
He conveys his sincere condolences to the British Prime Minister David Cameron and the British people over this senseless and barbaric act, and shares their grief at this moment.
President Jonathan notes that a terrorist attack anywhere is an attack on the way of life of all free nations and must be collectively condemned by all persons irrespective of race, ethnicity or religion.
It is in this spirit that the Nigerian government is partnering with the British Government, as well as all other stakeholder sovereigns to stand up to and fight terrorism and extremism in whatever guise or pretense it chooses to present itself.
President Jonathan recognizes that each environment presents its own unique challenges and peculiarities and actions taken by affected nations may differ, yet the resolve to confront and defeat this threat should never be in doubt.
President Jonathan says Nigerians are collectively resolute about the need to protect the freedoms that define our existence and inter-relationships at home and overseas. Our recent past tells us that when we pull together, this common enemy and threat will eventually be defeated.
